Two hours later, the ant-sized plane on the screen showed them that they were almost ready to land.
“Please fasten your seatbelts for landing!” the voice announced again. Joe checked Kevin’s seatbelt. He hadn’t even undone it the whole flight.
“Yeouch!” Nick cried, covering his ears. “Doesn’t it hurt you?” he asked Rachel. She shook her head as a small child began screaming and covering his ears too.
“It only affects some people.” She turned round to see Joe with his fingers stuffed in his ears and eyes squeezed tightly shut. Kevin was still asleep.
Gazing out of the window, she saw they were only a few feet from the ground. As she gripped the armrests, she plane hit the ground then bounced back up. It hit the ground harder and then bounced up and down as the the brakes squealed.
Almost instantly, they pulled up and were signalled to exit the plane. The clicking of seatbelts sounded all over the plane as people stood up stretching and sighing in relief.
“Joe, you can take your fingers out now, we’ve landed!” Rachel laughed as she and Nick stood up.
“Joe!” she laughed, knocking his shoulder. He opened his eyes and slowly removed his fingers.
“Awesome!” he cired jumping up. He leaned over Kevin and stared out of the window. Nick stood on tip-toe to reach their bags in the over-head lockers.
People began pouring off of the plane and ready to collect their bags from the terminals.
“Kevin,” Rachel called softly. “Kevin?” she shook his arm and he raised his head. His eyes were bloodshot and his face paler than ever.
“You look aweful,” Nick muttered.
“Thanks,” Kevin smiled weakly and pulled himself to his feet. “How long was I asleep?” He exhaled deeply as his hand pressed into his stomach.
“Like the entire flight dude!” Joe laughed and slapped him on the back. Kevin stumbled foward, groaning as Joe straightened him back up, “Sorry,” he mumbled handing him his bag.
Gripping the rail, they made their way down the stairs and along the corridor. Soon they were inside the airport and people were again rushing around like lunatics.
“Don’t run off this time!” Joe laughed as Rachel hit him with her magazine.
“Guys,” Kevin moaned as they made their way to their terminal. Grasping the handrail he slowed down, gasping for air.
They turned round sharply and Nick hurried to support him.
“Talk about being unfit!” Joe laughed as he and Rachel turned back to Kevin.
“I don’t think he’s unfit, Joe. I think he’s seriously ill,” Nick said bluntly, grunting as he placed Kevin’s arm around his neck and tried to support him. Joe’s grin was wiped off his face as he saw how small and weak Kevin suddenly looked. Rushing to help Nick with Kevin, Rachel took out her mobile and began to dial.
“Uhh!” she groaned shoving it back into her pocket, “I forgot I had no battery! Joe give me your cell!”
Joe dug his free hand into his pocket and tossed it to Rachel. The similar glossy black screen flipped up and she dialled a number.
“Yeah, it’s me Rachel. Where are you? Look we’re gonna go public soon and something’s wrong with Kevin. No-no he’s sick. I’m really worried. Ok. Could you send someone down? Ok, thanks. Bye.” Rachel shut the phone and handed it back to Joe.
“Who’d you call?” Nick asked as they began moving slowly along the corridor. Most of the other passengers had rushed past them to get their cases.
“Big Rob. He says he’s in California, he can’t make it in time and so he’s sending some of his back-ups.”
“What does that mean?” Nick asked.
“It means some bodyguards are gonna fill in for him until he gets here. Basically we’re covered for now.” Joe explained to Nick. “How long until they get here?” He gazed at Rachel.
“He said they’re most likely already here. Some will be anyway, the ones the airport woman called for emergencies.”
“Ok,” Joe nodded, “Let’s hurry up and get to the hotel, Kevin needs a doctor!”
They began shuffling through the crowded airport.
“Are you ok there?” a police officer tapped Joe on the shoulder as they struggled with Kevin. Rachel spun around.
“Excuse me! Were you called by a woman from Orlando Airport?” Rachel lowered her voice.
The man nodded slowly. “Who are you?” he asked.
Rachel gazed at Joe for his descision. He nodded and she lowered her glasses and stepped closer to the policeman.
“Rachel Jonas,” she whispered loud enough so that only he could hear.
“I’ve hear that so many times today!” he began laughing and looked up towards his mate. “Hey! Arnie! She’s the lucky ninth Rachel Jonas!”
“Shh!” Rachel glared at him. A few head turned but looked back once they realised it was the policemen having a laugh. She turned back to her brothers shrugging.
“Why were there other people pretending to be you?” Nick whispered.
“They knew we were on the plane,” Joe muttered shaking his head, “Someone must have seen us!”
“Ok, kids, move along! I don’t have time for your jokes!” the policeman waved a hand at them.
“But this isn’t a joke!”Rachel cried, suddenly raging with anger, “My brother is seriosuly ill and we need a doctor!”
“I’ve heard that before too!” he laughed.
“Look at him!” Rachel felt tears welling up inside her. Why would no one believe her. She pointed towards Kevin who was struggling to stand.
“Yeah, look kid, unless I get some signed proof, we’re not taking you anywhere but jail!”
“What!?” Rachel cried angrily.
“The tickets!” Joe remembered suddenly. “The woman wrote something on there, the part that Kevin kept!”
“If you’re seriosuly the Jonas’, then where are your body guards?”
“Big Rob can’t make it, we called him but-”
“Oh and I suppose you have his number do you?”
“Yes!” Rachel was about to make a grab for Joe’s phone when the policeman caught her hand.
“Look miss, I don’t want to do this, but I’m going to have to take you down to the station. How old are you?”
“I’m fifteen! Let me go!” Rachel cried, trying to tug her arm free.
The other policeman was now walking over.
“Another Jonas family?” he muttered, smirking.
“Yes!” Rachel jerked her hand free and whipped off her hat. “See?!” she cried, “It’s us!”
“Nice hair. It looks exactly like Rachel’s. Who’s you hairdresser?” the policeman joked, grabbing Rachel once again.
“You do it!” Nick cried.
“No you!” Joe snapped.
They turned back to the brothers.
“You thought of it, you do it!” Nick moaned.
“So? You do it!” Joe retorted.
“Do what?” Rachel cried desperately.
“Get the tickets!” Nick yelled. “Tell Joe to do it!”
“I’m not feeling around Kevin’s butt for the tickets!” Joe cried angrily.
“Joe, just do it!” Nick’s face was red with anger as his fists clenched tight.
“For god’s sake guys!” Rachel screamed.
They turned to her and realised the policeman had handcuffed her.
“Let her go!” Joe demanded furiously.
“Watch your tone, or you’ll be coming with us!”
“Leave her alone!” Nick whined. His eyes began glistening with tears. “What’s your problem? Our brother’s sick and you want to arrest our sister? What’s wrong with you people?!” He screamed at them, his throat red rore. He shakily collapsed to the floor and curled up. Hugging his knees he sobbed loudly.
“Right, that’s it! All of you are coming with us!” the policeman made a grab for Joe but before he could lay a finger on him, a massive hand slammed down onto his shoulder.
